Queensland’s Sunshine Coast reaches north of Brisbane, as far as Noosa Heads. It offers migrants a quintessential Australian lifestyle, in a pleasant sub-tropical climate. Temperatures in summer average 28° Celsius and in what they jokingly call ‘winter’, about 20°. Although more sparsely populated than the Gold Coast, you won’t have to sacrifice career opportunities to enjoy the laid back existence.

The economy of Sunshine Coast is based on tourism, retail and construction, but migrants who arrive with a head full of good ideas and a can-do attitude will find a culture that really supports the entrepreneurial spirit. Based at the University of Sunshine Coast’s Sippy Downs campus, industry and government have teamed up with academics to develop an ‘innovation hotspot’. This initiative supports start up ventures and networking events in ICT and knowledge based industries.

Many families migrate to Sunshine Coast for the variety of active, educational adventures in the great outdoors. Take your pick from theme park activities like Underwater World, SeaWorld and Australia Zoo. Make your own fun hiking in the national parks; or try a snorkel or surf board on for size.

As well as the Sunshine Coast University, the area is serviced by a selection of good state and some private schools; there is a large public hospital at Nambour, and several smaller private hospitals.

The most common way to get around coastal Queensland is by car. The Bruce Highway, starting in Brisbane follows the coast north to Cairns. There is a rail service running further inland, which connects to the coast via bus.

Sunrise Beach has unbelievable sparkling yellow sand, prettier than anything like it in the world, and it has many types of properties, from reasonably priced townhomes to more upscale properties. It’s only a few minutes off of Hastings Street, attracting a large number of families due to proximity to the better schools and sports facilities.

Little Cove has one of the most desirable locations in Noosa as it overlooks Laguna Bay and is next to the National Park. It also is right near Hastings Street, popular for everyone, and has properties from super high end homes to vacation rentals. Most of these properties have fantastic views and that extra is reflected in the pricing on properties. Generally it’s hard to find anything here because when people get in here they really don’t depart.

Sunshine Beach has a quaint feel to it, and has just now become a populated area, it offers the opportunity to purchase a piece of the coast on the waterfront. It is a very popular area, a great location among the natives here, and people like it due to the laid back feel of the place. Lately there have been some restaurants, boutiques and shops added so the residents are able to find finer things without having to leave the area.

When it comes to beaches there is no denying that Australia has been truly blessed. From white sandy beaches for swimming, surfing or snorkelling on the Great Barrier reef there are beaches to suit everyone. Let’s look at some of the more popular beach destinations for an Australian beach holiday.

Gold Coast, Queensland:

Even the Americans are on to the Gold Coast. Holiday apartments are harder to secure in the peak season but they are the best way to get close to the beach action and views. 10 million people visited the Gold Coast in 2008 and in 2009 you can see what they were there enjoying. Parasailing, water sports, and of course, a bit of sun worship are definitely the order of the day.

Noosa, Queensland:

Each March surfers head to Noosa. Accommodation can be hard to find, but holiday rentals are an excellent choice for making the most of your holiday. As one of the few beaches that faces north, even if you are not watching the surfers in March you’ll find a lot going on in Noosa year-round. Do watch on Alexandria Beach – clothing is optional!

Port Douglas, Queensland:

Port Douglas accommodation is hard to find in peak season, so book early if you are wanting this to be your beach destination in 2009. And there are so many reasons to make Port Douglas your oceanic destination! Naturally, there’s the Great Barrier Reef, plus the surfing, and then the onshore 4 wheel drive adventures are a gas. You can sun year round as well, without even having to get in the water.

Byron Bay, New South Wales:

As the Wet sets in, land lubbers all over Oz start dreaming of Byron Bay holiday homes. If you can’t own it, you can at least rent one for a long vacation. The white sandy beaches are perfect for sunning, or you can climb the steep shores with binoculars and gander at the water life. Both whales on migration and bottlenose dolphins are frequently spotted here. Parasailing, gliding, surfing and scuba are also on offer here. It’s also a very earthy, alternative style hippy zone, so you can totally unwind from the real world as you bask on the shore.

Jervis Bay, New South Wales:

Parts of Jervis are protected national park, and it’s no wonder. Stunningly beautiful, you’ll want to plan your trip early to book anything during the busy school holiday seasons such as Christmas and New Year this is one of the most popular destinations on the South Coast. Everyone and their dog and a colony of fairy penguins heads out here, or so it seems. Only a couple of hours drive south of Sydney, Jervis offers an easy to reach holiday spot for a long weekend or longer stay. Surf, fish, dive or trek in the Boonderee National Park during your stay. Sea kayaking has also recently gotten huge here, so if you tire of sunning yourself on the beach you can have a go at it as rentals are readily available.

The Sunshine Coast is a lovely region to visit just about any time of the year. Located just about an hour to the North of Brisbane this region is packed full of exciting things to do, with an amazing coastline filled with the most beautiful beaches in the world. When visiting the Sunshine Coast region there are several areas that you may consider staying like Noosa, Maroochydore, Caloundra and of course Mooloolaba and for the most part which area you choose should be based upon what you seek from your Sunshine Coast holiday.

Traveling to the Sunshine Coast will present the most fabulous beaches and great surf, so if that is your focus then you will want to look at any of the areas from Caloundra to Noosa. This truly is some of the best surf in the world so if your surfing skills are rusty or you are a beginner it might be a good idea to take an hour or so at the Maroochy Surf School with their instructors. They are well regarded and have classes to help you master the big waves found here.

As far as quaint seaside towns go you will want to check out Noosa. The northern end with its laid back atmosphere is known as a haven for the older crowd, but if you are looking for a day of just kicking back or of just enjoying the water this may be where you want to hang your hat. If you are looking for a little more adventure, check out the high end shopping experiences of Hastings Street which is beautifully lined with boutiques and cafes and makes for a wonderful afternoon of shopping. A stunning place because a National Park lies in this region as well, rounding off your Noosa experience quite nicely.

Of course most visitors are drawn here due to the fabulous beaches, the surf and all the shopping attractions, but the Sunshine Coast has a bunch more fun adventures to discover. The fans of the late Steve Irwin will want to go to the Australia Zoo which he did own, but is now run by his family. There’s also the Big Kart Track and all it’s amusements, including rock wall climbing, playing games in the video arcade and driving the go karts, fun for everyone.

Travelers will have the wonderful lifetime adventure when they visit the Sunshine Coast for a vacation. No matter where you choose to stay, whether Noosa, Caloundra, Maroochyodore or Mooloolaba, the quality of these areas will give you the best and cleanest places to stay when you come to the area.

There are plenty of things to see and do in and around Noosa, Queensland, Australia. Located on the Sunshine Coast, about a 90 minute drive from Brisbane, Noosa and its surrounds has something to offer everyone. Sports, shopping, or eating, the choices are plenty.

Surfing lessons.

The sheltered beach of Noosa, Queensland, is perfect for safe surfing lessons. The warm water temperature makes for comfortable surroundings, and the qualified instructors usually guarantee standing on the board in the first lesson. There are several surfing schools to choose from, catering for all ages.

Hastings St.

The lush shady street running along Noosa’s Main Beach is world famous for its boutiques and eateries. Enjoy fashion shopping, or simply stopping for a cappuccino overlooking the stunning beach view. Hastings St features art galleries, jewellery shops, and the requisite souvenir shops all interspersed amongst exclusive boutiques. A great place to people watch.

National Park.

The Noosa National Park at the end of Hastings St offers plenty of walks of varying lengths. These walks run alongside coves, cliffs and remote surfing spots. A lucky bush-walker may even be able to spot a koala in the trees.

Fraser Island.

This 123 km long sand island is World Heritage listed. Fraser Island has over 100 freshwater lakes, and literally miles of unspoilt beaches and coastline. The sand cliffs are up to 200 metres in height and are home to pristine rainforest. Getting to Fraser Island is an adventure in itself. 4WD vehicles only are allowed on the island. Visitors can either go on a 1 , 2, or 3 day tour or hire a 4WD and drive themselves. There are various styles of accommodation there, ranging from camping to resorts. There is no bridge to Fraser Island and access is via a car ferry.

Australia Zoo.

This world famous zoo is “home of the crocodile hunter”, the late Steve Irwin, and is located in the south west of the Sunshine Coast at Beerwah. This amazing animal park is open daily from 9am to 5pm. There are plenty of Australian native animals including koalas, wombats, and kangaroos, to see along with crocodile shows, bird of prey exhibits, reptiles, and mammals. Australia Zoo also offers a bus service from selected destinations for those who do not have access to a car.

Eumundi Markets.

20 kms west of Noosa is the historic inland town of Eumundi. Since 1979, the Eumundi markets have been operating, offering over 500 stalls to peruse. The Eumundi markets have become one of the largest of their kind in Australia. Food, fresh produce, handcrafted items, and live music can all be experienced. The Markets are open twice a week, Wednesdays from 8am till 1.30 pm, and on Saturdays from 6.30 am till 2pm.

Maleny & Montville Hinterland.

The towns of Montville and Maleny are situated in the Blackall Ranges, in the Noosa Hinterland. These towns are approximately 40 minutes away from Noosa, and are elevated offering majestic views over the Sunshine Coast. These historic towns are full of character and offer many cafes as well as antiques, galleries, and crafts. Hand crafted wooden furniture, patchwork quilts, glass-works, sculptures, pottery, and clocks are just some of the amazing merchandise to be found in these 2 towns.

Noosa River Cruises & Ferry.

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Noosa is from the Noosa River. There are plenty of options from the cost effective ferry which can float you right past million dollar water front homes to more commercial ventures. Day trips can be taken up the Noosa River to the beautiful Everglades, a stretch of water with astonishing reflections.

Fishing.

Those keen on fishing are well catered for in Noosa. With a river and miles of beaches, there are plenty of varied options. There are also fish charters available for those seeking the possibility of a bigger catch from the outer lying ocean reefs.

Thriller.

For those looking for some high speed adventure, this could be for you. A 500 horsepower speed boat will take you on the ride of your life, bouncing over waves along the Noosa waterways and Noosa beach. Not for the faint hearted.

The Noosa National Park

The Mary Caincross walk and lookout provides picturesque views of the Glasshouse Mountains. The Glasshouse Mountains were formed by long-extinct volcanoes.

Surrounding Areas
The Eumundi Markets on Wednesday and Saturday are world famous. There are many stalls featuring clothing, local crafts and food. These are among the best markets in the world!

Australia Zoo “Crikey” is another must-see whilst in Noosa. A free courtesy bus is available for those without a car.
Take a tour to Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island is a must. The flora and fauna is untouched on most of the Island and there are two crystal clear lakes with pure white sand, an ideal place for a swim.

Between July and November, Humpback whales can be seen off the Sunshine Coast headlands and beaches on their annual migration north to warmer waters.

Be sure to visit the Ginger Factory, Big Pineapple and Nut Factory.

With so much to offer Noosa would have to be an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday.

You can fly into the Brisbane airport which is about 90 minutes away or the Maroochydore airport which is about 30 minutes away. Bus and hire car services are available from both airports.
