Visiting the Queensland area is a wonderful vacation experience. A good place to land in is Brisbane. You will be happy to begin your tour there because of the great rates on so many different things that you will find. Because so many people go to the are there are good prices on places to stay, cars for hire and even airfare specials.

You will not be disappointed in what Brisbane has to offer. It is after all the 3rd biggest city in Australia. You can enjoy some of the regular cultural events that happen regularly in the city if that is something that interests you. If you need a little more activity you can go to one of the parks that are nicely laid out and perfect for biking around or playing, depending on the park that you go to. Don’t forget about all of the killer food that you will find in some of the award winning restaurants.

Getting to that part of the world is no cheap trip, that is why you want to make sure and see all that you can while there. It would be in your best interest to get a rental car so that you can get around and see all there is. From Brisbane you will want to cruise on down the Gold Coast. It will satisfy your every touristy whim. Surfers paradise is an area that you don’t want to miss because you will meet people from all over the world there.

If those places wear you out with all of the business and excitement it might be time to head toward something more relaxing and hit the beaches at the Sunshine Coast. It is definitely a slower paced area there. The beaches will amaze and then you will be astounded by the rainforest greenery at the Tropical North. This is like going to a whole other world and is something that you don’t want to miss.

If you want to get the full affect from the whole area then going around in a rental is the best plan of action. It will give you the freedom to explore at your own pace and give you a chance to see what you want to. You can buzz around the area or take it slow and really enjoy.

You can find fabulous yet, cheap brisbane hotels very simply because there are always sales and special deals available. There are plenty of excellent hotels brisbane to choose from all over.

It is 10c the night and 23c the afternoon and I really appreciate after months in the high 30c. The city is relax and there´sa good first feel about it. The people seems very big (not fat but tall and big). After 6 months of seeing only tiny and very slim people in Asia, it feels weird to be the small one. They are also much more disciplined than I thought: walking in order on the left side of the street, queuing even better than the English, crossing the road only once the green man is on display… I´m sure I´ll have no problem staying here for a bit. They are plenty of activities in the city and around (whale watching…) First things first: I cooked a proper 500g “rare” Rump steak with pasta and mushrooms the 15th evening. It was in very good position in the list of “what I miss the most after 3 months in India and 3 months in SEA¨ and it was absolutely THE BEST and my mouth is still watering now thinking about it. Second thing second: I´ll cook another 500g “rare” Rump steak within the next couple of days and will add some red wine (wine is probably 1st on my list). It is probably boring for those reading me but for me it is maybe more important than being on a

Tangalooma is always a good spot for the tourist; long white sandy bay side beaches, clear cooling waters with no rolling surf. The scenery in intensified by the huge sand hills on shore and the impressive sunken ship wreaks, that act as an artificial reef, lying with their top halves exposed in the waters off the beach. Many a boat anchors here all year round. There is only a couple of drawbacks; one is that the current runs fairly fast, too fast and dangerous to dive or snorkel the wreaks and the wreaks have not made any real protection from the swell or the weather if it comes in from the NW to SW, which SW is where most of Brisbane’s storms come in from. Otherwise it is a glorious location. Tarryn slept part of the way but Kerrin was out on deck to enjoy the ride. Moreton Bay was relatively calm; it was an easy passage. Our next destination was Mooloolaba, a ten hour passage up the coast. Up anchor early; 0545, under way and Tarryn was left to sleep. There was a 2mt swell coming in from the SE and a gentle breeze from the N/NW, making conditions a little

To be honest it was all a bit weird. The museum looked like someone had had a jumble sale, set off a bomb then stuck a sign above it `Nimbin Museum` The local, well that a different story, they all looked like they had been trapped in the museum when the bomb went off!!! I think they had taken the word Hippie too far! We continued on to Surfers paradise, where we encountered a 6 foot brown snake on route. I thought I had run it over but when we stopped Alaina saw it wriggle off up the grass bank! A passing local politely told us not to f!”#ing go looking for it as it will f!”#ing kill you man if it bites you. Very nice man! We made it to Surfers Paradise which is a strip of high rise buildings and one very long beach. Its a bit like Tenerife or Benidorm but good fun. We booked a couple of tickets for The Outback Experience which was a huge indoor arena where we all had our cowboy hats given to us. There was lots of horse riding, lassoing of cattle and I can`t really remember the rest as they were serving free beer all the way through! Good night! We decided to go inland on the Glass Mountain Tourist

It’s a great city for living, but as a tourist not much to see beyond a day or so. The first day I was there wasn’t technically in Brisbane, it was about an hour northwest at the Australia Zoo. This zoo is fantastic! It is a lot more hands on then any other zoo I have been to. The zookeepers become friends/trainers to their animals. The animals go on walks through the zoo, well except for the crocs. They are a little grumpy. In Roo Heaven you can walk up to a Kangaroo and feed it. At the Tiger Temple, the tigers are playing with their trainers like a dog would with its owner. While you are watching a Tasmanian devil dizzying everyone but its self a wombat will walk by you on a leash! They also bring a few of the animals out so you can hold them, become the ultimate Aussie tourist, and take a picture with your favorite Aussie animal. I choose to take a picture with a koala. Absolutely the most adorable animal, but because he was tired the keeper had me hold him for quite a while! So adorable! Beyond the constant influence of the entire Irwin family, the message of conservation and helping those in the Animal Kingdom is strong. As you leave the zoo all

Entry from: Noosa, Australia Entry Title: “Road trip – Return to Brisbane” Entry: “Day 19 Our day started with a short boat cruise to a bay where wild dolphins get fed. We expected some natural contact with these cute mammals, but it turned out to be a pure commercial show. Only two dolphins showed up and were “shared” by plenty of people. Anyway, we were given a fish to feed them and performed obligatory picture taking. On the way back the boat driver fed also eagles and many shorts were fired that time as well. By the boat driver we were also advised to see the Carlo sandblow, a 120m high dune, which we would have otherwise missed. Along with the beach it provided stunning vistas. Our next destination was Noosa, where we got later in the afternoon. It’s a city of a 100 roundabouts, but luckily we managed to obtain a street map at a tourist office even after opening hours. The plan for the evening was simple – a farewell BBQ dinner. We prepared it in the same way at previously to make sure nothing was going to go wrong, and indeed it didn’t, expect my slight stomach problems afterwards. Prior to dinner we had a table tennis tournament where everyone experienced bright as well as dark moments. Day 20 Our last day started with a breakfast by the river and a quick drive through Hastings street, Noosa’s

Entry from: East Coast of Australia, Australia Entry Title: “Brisbane to Great Keppel Island” Entry: “From Brisbane we headed to Noosa, a small resort but one of the busier YHA’s. This meant we had to share a dorm. Mye was quite happy as he had to share with three girls. The YHA was very sociable and set in very nice grounds. However, it was very noisy as some clever person decided to put down wooden floors and locks on doors which needed to be closed with force, so earplugs for Judie were required. From Noosa we moved to Hervey Bay, the dropping off point for Fraser Island. Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world. It has more sand than the Sahara Desert. We thoroughly enjoyed our three day, two night trip. It was made even better by our tour guide / bus driver, Dangerous Dave. He went out of his way to ensure everyone was having a good time and was constantly refilling beer glasses in the evening. The only problem was that Dave had a bit of a liking himself for the beer. After a few, he would drive the bus back to our resort. Maybe that was why he was called Dangerous Dave. The Island was absolutely stunning. Quite a few of the lakes were fresh water. Lake MacKenzie and Lake Wabby had the WOW factor. The water at Lake MacKenzie was so clear blue you could see the sand beneath you and

Entry from: Brisbane, Australia Entry Title: “South South South: Noosa, Brisbane, Byron Bay” Entry: “We stepped off the bus into Noosa – which seems to be the place where super rich Australians holiday and park their Yachts. It was particularly stunning but similarly expensive and not very Backpackery. We nevertheless enjoyed our speedy visit through taking in the beach and enjoying a really very hot day (the sun here is scarily strong – topping up our tans in a blink of an eyelid) We also treated ourselves and went up a beautiful lookout over Noosa’s Lakes with free wine and cheese – this turned out to be the notorious ‘Goon’ meaning cheap Australian wine from a box which has printed on the side “may contain traces of fish” and essentially mini cheddars and sliced cheese! But it was free so of course in pricey Oz we loved it! We moved quickly onwards South with everybody berating us for going south away from the sun – we in fact have had only a couple of rainy hours in the whole of Oz, a comparably dry and sunny trip it seems for this time of year. Our skin is but a shade tone lighter than on leaving Asia. We reached Brisbane and having spent a lot of time on and around beachy places, amazing though they were, we had started to crave some city life and Brisbane served this up on a plate excellently
