Los Angeles Area Photos From 1915
These images of the Los Angeles area were published in 1915 in a book simply named “Los Angeles and Vicinity.” Here is the opening text: Los Angeles has had the most rapid and remarkable growth of all cities in the world. Population in 1915 is approximately 500 000. This city and its environs are the all year round play grounds for the American Business Man and his family. Here may be found the beautiful summer and winter homes of many of America’s foremost capitalists, prominent among which is the home of the late Adolphus Busch in Pasadena. The hotels of Southern California are wonderful in architecture and situation and are unexcelled in the beauty of their surroundings. Among of these wonderful hotels are the Old Mission Inn at Riverside, the Potter and Arlington Hotels at Santa Barbara the Virginia Hotel on the Pacific at Long Beach, the Maryland and Green Hotels at Pasadena, the Arrowhead, near San Bernardino and the Alexandria, Lankershim, Hollywood and numerous other beautiful hotels in the City of Los Angeles. This city and surroundines may justly be called the All Year Round Paradise of Sunshine, Fruit and Flowers.

Entry from: Noosa, Australia Entry Title: “Down to Noosa for New Years” Entry: “December 29th We left our Villa at Hervey Bay behind to continue our road trip back down the coast heading towards Noosa. We decided to drop in at a couple of coastal stops along the way and we made good time across the Sandy Bay national parks long straight roads. Unfortunately for Lyndon a bit too good time as blue flashing lights behind signaled him to halt. A porky aussie copper waddled up to the window and proceeded to issue a 0 fine, very steep considering we were going 116 in a 100 zone but we dont think mr Pig was too impressed when Lyd said he had set the cruise control at 110. Following the smacking of Lyndon’s **** we had a lovely relaxing break at Tin Can Bay before continuing on to the lovely Rainbow Beach where we spent a while strolling on the golden sands, defiantly a place to return to in the future me thinks. Back into the car and within an hour we had reached Noosa where we had booked another 3 bed villa and we were again not disappointed in the accommodation, lovely views across the stunning bay and river mouth. December 30th This was set aside as a beach day and the weather did not disappoint and we spent a happy day enjoying the fantastic beach and warm sea. Unfortunately for most of us we caught …

Entry from: Taiba Brazil, Brazil Entry Title: “Paradise at Taiba!” Entry: “The awesome northeast coast of Brazil! Beaches and sunshine and more beaches that just keep going and going! Just 2 degrees from the Equator, with perfect weather all year long, pleasant Taiba, a 30 minute walk along the beach, is full of guest houses, restaurants on the beach and in town, is for real beach lovers and kite boarders. I spent several days relaxing in peace at this fantastic spot less than an hour from Fortaleza. A great apartment on the nice, wide, empty beach, hot and breezy all the time, warm ocean water, moderate waves and a nice, simple town nearby. This was the exact opposite of Rio as far as action goes, and just what the doctor ordered. This is kite surfing headquarters, with many schools nearby and a waveless lagoon for beginners. This area is very popular with Europeans for the guaranteed winds, strong and contant, with sunshine and warm water all year long, with no wetsuit ever being needed. The really big high season for kite surfing is around July-December, with stronger wind, but the breeze is suitable all year long. The warm wind makes for pleasant days in the sun for non surfers, too. There are dune buggies for rent to ride up and down the beach or on the massive sand dunes that go for miles …

Entry from: The Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia Entry Title: “The Sunshine Coast” Entry: “The Sunshine Coast certainly lived up to its name for us. We travelled down through Maroochydore, Noosa then on to Mooloolaba where we decided to stop for a few days and spend some time on its beautiful beach. Mooloolaba itself seems to be a popular holiday destination for Australians, again, travelling from the cold south at this time of year to catch some rays and make use of the surfboards. Our campsite was conveniently located approx 20m from the beach and still in the centre of town. The main esplanade here is made up of small boutiques, cafes and bars all along the beach with their famous kebab shops, which I must add, are damn good and nothing like back home. We were also lucky one evening to see the ‘nippers’ in action at the beach as we sat with our beers watching the sun going down (photo attached). The ‘nippers’ are a household name in Australia. These guys and girls are the young lifesavers who train 3 times a week down at the beach. They all have their surfboards and dash out to a marker in the sea, run back up the beach and tag the next person and so on. The Australians take these kids seriously and mums and dads encourage their young ones to join up from an early age. After a few days in …

Entry from: Noosa Heads, Australia Entry Title: “Beef Tacos, Tea Tree and Longboarding at Noosa” Entry: “We spent the last 3 nights in Noosa Heads with the girls at this real cool hostel (Halse Lodge) right across from the surf beach at Noosa…The village is very upper-class resort style …A little too classy for surf travel. None the less, Noosa is legendary and we arrived at the tail end of a good swell…caught some nice ones off the first point, Boiling Pot, and Tea Tree (a rocky yet fun and powerful wave). The first point is like the Malibu of Australia…perfectly shaped and clean, you could ride it forever. And I did. Man it’s great to be in surf country now. We ran into the guys from Peru and Chile who we’d met at Fraser Island…they were at Noosa for a surf. Also, we ran into the Swedish friends at Halse Lodge…it’s prety cool how you run into all these people you know everywhere. Australia is really a country of vagabonders. Everyone has a beat up campervan and a surfboard. The national park in Noosa is very beautiful..we went on a few hikes with our boards in search of waves…Dylan got a surfing lesson at the rivermouth with some cat from Coolum…he was doing the Keanu Reaves pop-up on the sand like in Point Break…haha…and Stef bought this 0 7’0″ brand new made in …

Entry from: Fraser Island, Australia Entry Title: “Roo’s, Dingo’s and Frasier Island” Entry: “Drive to Fraser. I woke up at 6:30 am to catch the 7 am tour bus to Fraser. This is the first time I had to wake up early and I learned the early wake-up rules for not disturbing you bunk mates: 1) toiletries in bed 2) shower shoes under bed 3) clothes for next day in bed 4) Passport, wallet, locker key in your pocket while sleeping. 4) Cell phone with alarm on nightstand. 6) Get up and shower 6) Dress 7) Open locker
Get back pack and leave. I slinked out and it was sunrise, the birds were chirping and it felt great. I got down to the bottom and met a few ladies named Jana and Lesley. They lived in Sydney and decide to travel around for a few weeks. They stayed at the french quarter right next to the house lodge. They were nice ladies but a little rambunctious. We got on the bus and met our tour guide named Andrew…nice guy. We picked up 12 more along the way and with our 4 by 4 coach, we went through Noosa. Noosa is a pretty small suburban town very similar to the pacific beach’s mission boulevard there are busy parts and quiet parts. We crossed the river in a ferry boat. Now we had 20 minutes of flat surface driving. We learned about the ferry crossing and how it cost 3000000 dollars. Each trip across …

“Paradise” Islanders’s photos around Fraser Island, Australia (white sand islands australie)
Preview of Islanders’sblog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Fraser Island, Australia Entry Title: “Paradise!” Entry: “Fraser Island is the largest Sand Bar in the world so we decided to take a tour, rather than trying to drive ourselves over the sand and be getting stuck all the time so we were picked up at 645am outside the Brisbane Transit Centre. There were 7 of us, plus our tour guide Michael to start with and he loaded everyone’s bags onto the top of the 4wd and we set off for Fraser Island. There was a Japanese couple, a Thai girl, and a Korean couple and they all spoke really good english. Micheal our guide was a typical surfer aussie, really cool and laid back. It takes quite a long time to get there and poor Brett had a raging hangover from the night before. Thankfully the first 2 hours on the road were smooth. We passed the Glass House Mountains and arrived in Noosa where we had a short stop while we waited for the 2 remaining passengers. Rosemary and her 9 year old daughter Sarah who were from Melbourne. Sarah kept us all entertained for the 3 day trip! We then drove to Rainbow Beach where we stopped and had lunch. Everywhere we saw along the way was beautiful but nothing could prepare us for Fraser Island. On arrival we drove along 75 mile beach. It is really weird seeing a beach that large and being used as a highway. We saw Whales and …

Entry from: Cairns, Australia Entry Title: “Byron bay – Cairns” Entry: “Hello! It’s going to be difficult for me to remember everything that I did on this trip because it was quite a while ago and I’ve not got my journal with me (that’s right I kept a journal because i’m a travelling pro/geek). Ok so after Byron Bay – which was awsome by the way – Sned (thali’s boyfriend) arrived and he rented a car and we drove up to Noosa via SurfersParadise. We didn’t stay in Surfers because we heard it’s not great but we did go to Movie world. Which was quite fun but we got there late and missed the police academy stunt show which is supposed to be the best. In Noosa we were wern’t there for long and didn’t do much as i didn’t want to surf because i was still injured from my week of surfing. The next day we drive up to Hervey Bay as from there we were booked on a self drive 4×4 Fraser Island Trip. Fraser Island is this big sand island with Dingos and lakes. Quite pretty but weather wasn’t great and we had to camp, and as a few of you may know I HATE CAMPING. Our group was cool, mainly americans but that was ok in the end. They were really fun and because the company we went with had four 4×4 cars we all took the same route and we stayed in the same place and by the end of the two days our car was known by …
